Challenges of Farming in Maryland
16.04.09
Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation Local governments using a "buy local" promotion to help local hospitals, grocery stores and consumers buy produce from their local farmers. More complexity within agriculture requires increasingly sophisticated management. This includes complex bookkeeping, crop management, farming practices, using crop consultants, environmentalists and equipment. Consolidating small farms into large farms. Using a strategic advantage to create another revenue source such as provide consulting services to other farmers. Niche Market Farming - concentrating on one type farming including organic farming. Community supported agriculture - whereby a farm forms a community of consumers who pay a fee for a regular supply of produce. These fees provide cash to farmers at a time when they need cash and builds a relationship between the farm and the local commnity.

Does anyone know if reptile conventions by The Maryland Reptile Farm are any decent?
Oct 08, 2008 by ratphink120 | Posted in Reptiles
I had a corn snake for the longest time but he finally kicked the bucket. Now I'm looking for a python but I'm reluctant to go to Petco or Persmart. I would like to go to a convention and get it right from the breeder. I'm just wondering if it's worth driving a 1/2 hour and paying a cover charge or not.
Yes its definatly worth it i would choose this option over any other you can speak the to the breeder direct and they are well cared for and you can be assured you are getting a python from a very good breeder when you get one from a convention

I am trying to find information on an old farm house in Accident, Maryland. Any suggestions?
Sep 27, 2006 by SadToday22 | Posted in Renting & Real Estate
I don't have the specific address, but do have family names, time frames, info on the property etc. Any suggestions on where to search on the internet to see if I can find this house?
I would e mail or call their city hall. Chances are, they will know of the property, or can direct you to who might, especially if it is in a small town.

I need info and opinions on factory farming of animals?
Nov 14, 2008 by sugarandsnow18 | Posted in Agriculture
I am in an animal rights class at Goucher college in Maryland. I need to gather info and opinions on factory farming of animals. Also if you have any opinions on how vegetarianism effects this that would be great! Thanks
I just want to clarify, this class is an elective, no one is required to take it. The class has to do project relating in someway to the class. I decided to do this topic, you do not have to agree with me. This class is not being sponsered by anyone but the school.
(respondents opinion) Amazing, animal rights has now become part of the curriculum at liberal colleges.
(Responders answer) Factory farming is driven by consumer demand: the desire for meat at a cheap price. It's not driven by Animal cruelty. If more people were herbivores, as you say, there would be less demand for cheap meat. Supply would exceed demand, prices would fall, the economics of large scale farming would diminish.

200 FARMS MAY FALL VICTIM TO HERD MENTALITY IN MARYLAND
According to Chuck Fry 2nd VP of the Maryland Farm Bureau, in 2009 Maryland may lose 30 percent of their nearly 600 dairy farms, due to the faltering economy and falling milk prices. Pressure on farmers to produce more milk will cause a glut and further depress prices.
