Weir Farm to take part in National Park Week - Danbury News Times
RIDGEFIELD --Saturday marks the beginning of National Park Week, and Weir Farm National Historic Site in Ridgefield -- the state's only national park -- invites area residents to join in its activities.
"Our planned activities are a way for Weir Farm to participate in this event that showcases national parks," said park ranger Christopher Gezon. "We're inviting people to engage in Weir Park on walks, Junior Ranger programs, and sketching in the same locations where other artists have worked."
On Sunday at 9 a.m., staff horticulturist Greg Waters will lead a guided walk through the fields and woods of the farm, pointing out newly emerging signs of spring -- budding trees, flowers and returning songbirds -- and talking about Connecticut's agricultural and natural history.
To register for the walk, call (203) 544-9829, ext. 11.
On April 23 to 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can spend an afternoon sketching the landscape as part of the "Take Part in Art" program. Pastels, graphite and colored pencils will be available for free.
