Local FFA chapters compete at NJC - Journal-Advocate
Approximately 457 area high school students were on the campus of Northeastern Junior College on Tuesday. The students were FFA members participating in FFA District Career Development Events (CDEs).CDEs demonstrate connections between classroom instruction and real-life scenarios and they build on what is learned in agricultural classes and FFA. They also help prepare students for careers in agriculture.
Students from four districts and 33 different schools competed in a variety of events, including ag mechanics, livestock judging, horse judging and floriculture.
Students who participated in the ag mechanics contest had to answer questions about engines and identify different parts.
In the livestock and horse judging contests, which were held at the Logan County Fairgrounds, students had to view and rank numerous pens of live animals, including sheep, hogs and horses. The students had to give reasons why they ranked the animals the way they did and why the features of one animal made it superior to another.
