MCWA working to protect water - Mohave Valley News

Some history on MCWA: The city of Kingman was threatened with loss of its 18,500 acre feet contract for Colorado River water because they had not put it to use and had no plan to put it to use within a reasonable time due to the high capital and O&M costs associated with pumping the water from the river to Kingman. The cities of Kingman, Lake Havasu City and Bullhead, the Mohave Water Conservation District, Golden Shores Water Conservation District, and the Mohave Valley Irrigation & Drainage District came together to develop a plan to keep the water in Mohave County versus it going to Phoenix. This effort led to legislation in 1994 to create MCWA to take the assignment of the Kingman Colorado River contract in exchange for providing funds to Kingman to develop its groundwater resources. The above entities, plus Mohave County, make up MCWA; its board is appointed by the governing bodies of its member entities.
