Gates official picked for undersecretary of agriculture
Dr. Raj Shah, director of agricultural development in the global development program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has been nominated under secretary of the U.S Agriculture Deparment.
Shah would be responsible for research, education and economics at the Agriculture Department.
Shah joined the Gates Foundation in 2001 and has been director of strategic opportunities and deputy director of policy and finance for global health at the foundation. He was involved in a program that aims to save the lives of 5 million people through child immunization.
He also was a health-care adviser on Vice President Al Gore’s run for the White House in 2000. He also has been a policy aide to the British Parliament and worked at the World Health Organization.
The Gates Foundation released this statement:
